How To Play Roulette

THE BASIC RULES & TIPS FOR WINNING AT ROULETTE

Feel lucky? Roulette could be the game for you. It is a game that is based purely on luck. No skill -- or "system" -- will consistently defeat the house. But you can make some smart decisions that will aid your chances. Roulette is also one of the easier games to learn and to play. And it offers an opportunity to bet conservatively or shoot for the moon. The wheel has numbers from 1 to 36 plus 0 and 00 (in American roulette; European roulette does not have the 00). The numbers 1 through 36 are alternately colored red and black. Bets are called "Inside" if they are on specific numbers or combinations of numbers. Bets are called "Outside" if they are on groups of numbers or colors.

En Prison rules are typically associated with European tables. If a ball lands in 0, a player who has made an "even money bet" (Odd, Even, Red, Black, 1-18 or 19-36) has his/her bid "imprisoned". If this bet wins on the next spin, the money is released from prison. En Prison Surrender rules are typically associated with Atlantic City casinos. Under these rules, a player with an even money bet loses only half of his/her bet amount if the ball should land in 0 or 00. (Note that variants of these rules exist; examine the details carefully at each casino).

Tips For Online Roulette

  • Choose European tables whenever possible (with one less number, there is less room for the house to win)
  • Use the En Prison and En Prison Surrender rules if they are available when placing even-money bets
  • On an American table, avoid 5-number bets (because the house advantage is slightly higher than for other bets)
  • Don't get swept into thinking that the last spin of the wheel will have any impact on what comes up next. This is the most common mistake of the novice player, and experienced hands will tell you that each spin is a fresh start
